The Keening Community|1 Remember, YHWH, what it was to us/take note and see our reproach. 2 Our inheritance to strangers is overturned/our houses to those who are noticed. 3 Orphans are we with no father/our mothers like widows will be. 4 Our water with silver we drank/our wood with a price always comes. 5 Pursuing us up to our necks/Weary and no rest for us. 6 To Egypt we gave them our hand/to Assyria to give us our bread. 7 Our fathers sinned and disappeared/their evils we now bear. 8 Slaves are ruling over us/Who will save us from their hand?

9 With our very being we purchase our bread/because of the wilderness sword. 10 Our skin is like an oven black/from the face of raging hunger. 11 Our women in Zion they have raped/young women in cities of Judah. 12 Princes by their hands are hung/elders no longer respected. 13 Young men to grinding mills lifted up/and boys under heavy wood stagger. 14 Elders from the gate have gone/young men from plucking their strings. 15 Gone is the joy of our hearts/overturned to lament is our dancing. 16 Fallen the crown of our heads/woe to us for we have sinned. 17 Now we are sick to our hearts/Now we have darkened our eyes. 18 We grieve over desolate Zion/jackals walk on it.
